God our Foundation Congregational Prayer

Thank you God for this solid earth,
our feet planted on a firm foundation.
Thank you for rock, built up layer by layer
from the beginning of time.
Thank you for rocks that tower over us,
mountains that provide us with the long view.
Thank you that you are a rock for us:
solid, reliable, and eternal.
With you as our foundation,
we can weather any storm.
Today we come with requests for people
who feel the earth is shaking;
people whose lives have been turned upside down,
through grief and loss, and through sickness.
We name particularly ___________.
Hold us fast, and keep our feet steady.
We confess that we are very quick to build on sand;
instead of loving the people in our community,
we are judgmental;
instead of helping those in need,
we walk by them. 
Thank you for that you forgive us,
and give us strength to make better choices.
There are countries where the basic building blocks
of a safe society are threatened;
we pray specifically for Afghanistan.
So many invading armies have come and gone,
so many warlords want power;
we pray for good government
and protection of human rights, especially for women.
There are many humanitarian organizations operating there;
prosper their work and preserve them from harm.
God, our Hope, help our small little community of faith.
We want to be faithful, sharing your good news.

in whose name we pray, Amen.
